Durango Colorado

Shooting in Durango Colorado on an architectural shoot

San Juan Mountains

On the third day of the Durango shoot we had some down time and decided to take advantage of what looked to be a good sunset.  We headed north on highway 550, the Million Dollar Highway, and into the San Juan Mountains about 60 miles.  Right before sunset we found this place called Big Molas Lake.

This picture consists of 10 exposures vertically merged together for a file that can be printed up to 18 feet wide.  One of the most interesting things about this image was the final 10 exposures were right as the sun broke through the low clouds allowing the mountains to glow red, literally.  The mountains tops were glowing red like this for only a few minutes.

I belive the peaks are named: Mt Rhoda, White Dome Peak, Two Trinity Peak, Electric Peak and  Snowdon Peak.

Beautiful! I love Colorado and in particular the San Juan range. You were close to Telluride. Love that area! The Million Dollar Highway always gives me the chills to drive (especially in the winter—no margin for error)
